QuickBooks Online comes in four plans, each adding capability over the last. Here is what actually changes between them.

Simple Start (1 User)

Covers the basics: income and expense tracking, invoicing, and simple reports. Built for freelancers and solo operators who just need clean books and to get paid.

Essentials (Up to 3 Users)

Everything in Simple Start, plus bill management and time tracking, and room for two more people to log in. A natural step up once you bring on a bookkeeper or a business partner.

Plus (Up to 5 Users)

Our most popular Online plan. Adds inventory tracking and project profitability reporting — useful once you are selling physical products or running multiple client projects and want to see which ones are actually profitable.

Advanced (Up to 25 Users)

Built for larger teams: custom and batch reporting, batch invoicing, and dedicated support. If you are running Online at real scale with a finance team rather than one bookkeeper, Advanced is where you land.

Choosing Between Them

  • Solo freelancer → Simple Start
  • Small team with a bookkeeper → Essentials
  • Selling products or running projects → Plus
  • Larger finance team → Advanced
